Dreadnought Battleship, Queen Elizabeth-class

 

Pendant Nos. 3A (1914), 84 (1.18), 06 (4.18). Launched 18.3.15 Armstrong. 27,500 tons, 640(oa), 600(pp)x90x30ft. Turbine 75000shp, 25kts. Armament: 8-15in, 14-6in, 2-3in AA, 4-21in tt. Armour: 13in sides, 3in deck, 11in guns. Crew: 950. 5th BS attached to Battlecruiser Force, Grand Fleet from completion. Battle Honour (and link to despatches, casualties, awards) Jutland 31 May 1916.  Sold 20.2.48, BU Metal Ind, Faslane. (British Warships 1914-1919)

Laid down 20/10/13, launched 18/3/15, comp 2/16. Commissioned at Newcastle in February 1916 and joined 5th BS, Grand Fleet at Scapa Flow. Suffered slight damage in action at Jutland and completed repairs by 4 July. (Battle honour - Jutland 1916). Damaged 22 November 1918 in collision with destroyer Penn. Visited Cherbourg for Peace Celebrations in April 1919 and the following year carried Allied Disarmament Commission to inspect German ports. In 1921 carried Prince Arthur of Connaught to India and paid courtesy visit to Malaya. From 1920 to 1924 served in Atlantic Fleet, thereafter Mediterranean Fleet. Partially modernised 1927-29 and again 1934-36. Served in WW2 until paid off early in 1945, and sold for BU in 1948.(Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1906-21)
