Seaplane Carrier, built on merchantman hull Pendant Nos. N.8A (4.17), N.9A (1.18). Laid down as Stockholm, purchased 27.2.17, launched 9.6.17 John Brown. Renamed 28.8.17. 3300 tons/2450grt, 332(oa), 330(pp)x43x15ft. Turbine 9500shp, 20kts. Armament: 2-3in, 2-12pdr AA, 9 aircraft. Grand Fleet 1917-18. Sold 22.8.31 Ward, Morecombe. (British Warships 1914-1919) The last of the short-sea passenger ship conversions was in many ways the most sophisticated, because she completed last. As with the Nairana, landplanes were stowed in the forward hangar, and seaplanes aft, to simplify handling. A variety of aircraft were carried: Beardmore WB IIIs Nos N 6104, N 6106, N 6107 (1917); Fairey Campania; Sopwith Camel 2F 1s (4 carried in October 1918); Fairey IIIC (White Sea 1919 and 'L' Flt of 267 Sqn - N 9253, N 9257); RAF in Dardanelles, 1922 - N 9230, N 9259 taken to Russia, N 9253, N 9257 to Mediterranean; Fairey IIIFD_s (6 in 1922); Short 184s N 9290, N 9291, N 9292, N 9293 (Russia 1919). Joined Grand Fleet until early 1919, when she was sent to Archangel to support operations against the Bolsheviks. Recommissioned at Rosyth 2 December 1919 and left for Mediterranean in March 1920. Ran aground off Kerch 9 March 1920 but she was on soft mud, refloated with help of two tugs and an icebreaker. Remained with Mediterranean Fleet to 1923. From 1924 she was rated as an aircraft tender until sold in 1931 to Ward, Morecombe for breaking up. (Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1906-21) |

Notes: 1. Latitude/longitude, including for days in port, show representative decimal positions for each day, as calculated by the Old Weather project's analysis program. As such, they differ by varying amounts from the positions recorded, usually at noon, in the log pages. In addition, some latitudes/longitudes have been amended in edited logs for errors in the logs, for errors in identifying locations by the analysis program, or simply for greater accuracy. In all cases, refer to the log-page scans for the positions as originally recorded. Not all log pages contain this information and the ships' positions have therefore often been estimated. 2. Full account of any day is available by clicking on the link above that day. Groups of links refer to log book covers and introductory information; some may be blank. |

THE VOYAGES OF HMS PEGASUS 1919 (Maps prepared using Journey Plotter, developed by Maikel. The Plots can only be approximate. They are made by joining-up positions on successive days, and sometimes positions are not given. There will therefore be occasions when the ship appears to have travelled overland) LOGS FOR APRIL 1919 4caf899ccadfd341970275b7: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-001_0.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275b8: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-001_1.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275b9: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-002_0.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275ba: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-002_1.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275bb: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-003_0.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275bc: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-003_1.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275bd: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-004_0.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275be: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-004_1.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275bf: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-005_0.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275c0: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-005_1.jpg) 4caf899ccadfd341970275c1: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-006_0.jpg) 1 April 1919 At Devonport Lat 50.38, Long -4.19 09.00 Recommissioned ship Am new ratings reported aboard 4caf899ccadfd341970275c2: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-006_1.jpg) 2 April 1919 At Devonport Lat 50.38, Long -4.19 4caf899ccadfd341970275c3: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-007_0.jpg) 3 April 1919 At Devonport Lat 50.38, Long -4.19 4caf899ccadfd341970275c4: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-007_1.jpg) 4 April 1919 At Devonport 17.30 pm hands fell in for taking on board various supplies Lat 50.38, Long -4.19 4caf899ccadfd341970275c5: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-008_0.jpg) 5 April 1919 At Devonport Lat 50.38, Long -4.19 4caf899ccadfd341970275c6: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-008_1.jpg) 6 April 1919 At Devonport Lat 50.38, Long -4.19 4caf899ccadfd341970275c7: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-009_0.jpg) 7 April 1919 At: Devonport Lat 50.38, Long -4.19 09.00 am hands fall in for handling stores 1.00 pm hands fall in for handling stores 4caf899ccadfd341970275c8: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM53-54734/ADM53-54734-009_1.jpg) 8 April 1919 At Devonport Lat 50.38, Long -4.19 12.40 pm commenced flooding dock. 2.20 pm dock flooded.
