Admiralty V-Class Destroyer ordered in June 1916 from Doxford of Sunderland under 9th Order in the 1916-17 Build Programme. The ship was laid down in January 1917 and launched on 17th November 1917 as the 2nd RN ship to carry the name. It was first used by a 1902 destroyer lost after being mined in 1915. Build was completed on 1st April 1918 and the ship was fitted for minelaying. .She then joined the Fleet and took part in operations at Ostend and Zeebrugge. Her later service with the Atlantic Fleet was in the 1st Destroyer Flotilla but she was placed in Reserve when economic measures made necessary reductions during the 1930's. In 1939 the ship was re-commissioned with a Chatham Division Ship's Company and was allocated for duty at Gibraltar. In March 1942 following a successful WARSHIP WEEK National Savings campaign she was adopted by the civil community of Rhondda, Glamorgan.
