First submarine to carry the name which was first carried by a 2nd Rate captured in 1709 (Ex ALBERMARLE) and last used in 1811 by a 3rd Rate scrapped in 1833, the 8th to bear this name. Launched under this name she was nominated for service with the 10th Submarine Flotilla in Malta which she joined in June 1941.

 

During patrol in the central Mediterranean on 20th July that year she was attacked and sunk by the Italian torpedo boat CIRCE.
