LOCH Class Anti-Submarine Frigate ordered from Harland and Wolff at Belfast on 11th May 1943 and laid down on 8th August 1944 as Admiralty Job Number J3932 ( Yard Number 621)and w as to be named LOCH LUBNAIG. Owing to a policy change to meet the need for anti-aircraft escorts for service in the Far East a revision was design change was made on 5th October 1944. The ship was launched on 16th December that year as HMS WHITESAND BAY and was the first Royal Navy ship to carry this name. Build completion date as an Anti-aircraft Frigate was 30th July 1945.                                 (Note: The assistance given to HM Minesweeper JEWEL for repair may have been in this

                                period, but no details are known. The ship also acquired a motor boat from the Australian

                                Army which was taken to Hong Kong).

                                Deployed for patrol and trade defence including escort of colliers from French Indo China

                                to Hong Kong.

                                Visited Labuan, Borneo.

 

February                Passage from Labuan to Hong Kong.

                4th          Arrived at Hong Kong.

                10th        Deployed in South China Sea for trade protection.

                11th        At Port Campha, French Indo China.

                                Visit arranged to coal mine.

 

March                    Escort duties in continuation.

                                Visited Haiphong.

                                (Note: French-Indo China was being infiltrated by Chinese communist forces and leave was

                                (Note: During this period intercepted ships suspected of running blockade with illegal

HMS WHITESAND BAY was placed in Category III Reserve and laid-up at Rosyth without preservation or maintenance. The ship's company was transferred to HM Frigate LOCH KILLISPORT then refitting at Chatham. Late in 1955 she was placed on the Disposal List and sold to BISCO for breaking-up at Charlestown. near Rosyth  by Metal Industries. The ship arrived in tow at the Forth on 13th February 1956.
