Repeat SHOREHAM-Class Sloop ordered from HM Dockyard Chatham under the 1930 Programme in 1929. She was ordered on 16th March 1931 and laid down on 1st December 1931. The ship was launched by Mrs Round-Turner on 20th September 1932 as the 3rd RN ship to carry the name previously used by two minor warships during WW1. The first was sunk by a U-Boat in 1917 and then this name was used for a Paddle Tug.. Build of this ship was completed on 31st March 1933 and she was commissioned for service in the West Indies. After refit and re-commissioning in UK during 1938 she resumed duties baaed at Bermuda.

September             Deployed for patrol and contraband control in West Indies.

to                            Based at Trinidad.

December

 

1 9 4 0

 

January                  West Indies deployment for convoy escort and patrol in continuation.

to

June

 

July                         Redeployed at Bermuda for convoy defence.

                27th        Taken on hand for refit at Bermuda.

 

August                  Under refit.

 

September             Carried out post refit trials and on completion resumed convoy defence duties.

                2nd         Joined Convoy SC3 as escort for passage to Sydney, Cape Breton, Canada.

                10th        Passage to UK as convoy escort.

                14th        Under attack by U48 west of Ireland and hit by torpedo.

                                Sunk in position 56.45N 14.1W.

                                (Note: Two mercantiles in this convoy were also sunk by U48.
