Dear Mr. Smith:

I'm writing to ask if you have information about the U.S. quietly helping the British in this war. The reason I'm asking is that at the time of the war I was flying with the Flying Tiger Line as a captain on the 747. I flew a trip from Brize Norton to San Juan Puerto Rico with a complete radar site and 20 RAF personnel which were headed for Santiago Chili. This was not the only flight that Flying Tiger Line flew in support of the war as I know of at least one or more of them. I'm now retired and am the president of the Flying Tiger Line Pilots Association. We have a web site which is....  www.flyingtigerline.org  ..... and on the web site we have a discussion page which is open to anyone who cares to ask a question or make a comment. Some of our members have started a conversation about the war and what part F.T.L. played in support of it. This got me to thinking that I might Google some information and that's how I have found you. Please feel free to go to our site and read the discussions about the war they under BILLONS what's the strangest Gee Whiz you have flown. You might check one with my name on it to start. Thank you for you reporting and writing.

 Sincerely;

George Gewehr, F.T.L.P.A.   (gjtiger@msn.com)

Dear George

Would you mind if I quoted your email on www.naval-history.net. I know we flew special forces into Chile and that US supplies were flown into Ascension, but this is a new one on me. I'm sure others will be interested.

Just to be sure. Is there any security blanket on this? Maybe not in the US but probably in the UK!

Look forward to hearing from you.

Gordon Smith

Mr. Smith:

Thanks for the quick reply sometimes you never know if anyone will reply to a question that is asked. By all means please quote my email none of us have been told not to mention these flights. In the UK I can't say, I do know we have a member who worked on ground ops for Tigers for many years who is from the UK and he didn't know of these trips. His name is John Towns and he lives here in the US in Reno Nevada and is one reason this conversation amongst us began. He was wondering if there is any information in the UK about Tigers flying in support of the war. I hope you had a good time in the San Diego area, I live in Tucson Arizona now but I did live in the San Diego area for 30 years. We just moved over here 4 years ago. We have some very good friends who live here and the wife of the couple is from Montevideo Uruguay which we have visited and to be sure we are aware of the politicks down there.

Thanks again for your reply and cheers,

George Gewehr.
