Notes: 1. Latitude/longitude, including for days in port, show representative decimal positions for each day, as calculated by the Old Weather project's analysis program. As such, they differ by varying amounts from the positions recorded, usually at noon, in the log pages. In addition, some latitudes/longitudes have been amended in edited logs for errors in the logs, for errors in identifying locations by the analysis program, or simply for greater accuracy. In all cases, refer to the log-page scans for the positions as originally recorded. Not all log pages contain this information and the ships' positions have therefore often been estimated. 2. Full account of any day is available by clicking on the link above that day. Groups of links refer to log book covers and introductory information; some may be blank. |

THE VOYAGES OF HMS KENNET 1913-1915
(Maps prepared using Journey Plotter, developed by Maikel. The Plots can only be approximate. They are made by joining-up positions on successive days, and sometimes positions are not given. There will therefore be occasions when the ship appears to have travelled overland)

Quoted from HISTORY OF THE GREAT WAR, NAVAL OPERATIONS, by Sir Julian S. Corbett, Volume I, published 1920 “The last act of the British blockade was a bold effort of the destroyer KENNET to cut off a German destroyer that was making for the port at sunset on the 23rd. But she was outpaced, and not only did the enemy get away, but punished the KENNET so severely that she had a gun put out of action and lost three men killed and six wounded, two of which subsequently died.” LOGS FOR OCTOBER 1914 4caf8731cadfd34197019b9a: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-002_0.jpg) 4caf8731cadfd34197019b9b: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-002_1.jpg) 4caf8731cadfd34197019b9c: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-003_0.jpg) 4caf8731cadfd34197019b9d: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-003_1.jpg) 1 October 1914 Patrolling Basilan Lat 6.6, Long 122.3 5.30 am proceeded to close WELLAND 08.00 am remained stopped between Basilan and Sibago. 11.30 am proceeded 2.20 pm closed Dutch steamer 2.40 pm sent whaler to examine her 4caf8731cadfd34197019b9e: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-004_0.jpg) 2 October 1914 En route Basilan to Darvel Bay and at Darvel Bay No position in log. 8.30 am Sighted CADMUS ahead and closed her. 9.00 am stopped and discharged 11 RNR stoker to CADMUS 10.45 am closed American launch 3.15 pm stopped to examine SS LABUAN 5.55 pm made fast to collier SWANLEY 6.00 pm commenced coaling 4caf8731cadfd34197019b9f: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-004_1.jpg) 3 October 1914 En route Basilan to Darvel Bay Lat 4.8, Long 118.5 6.10 am coaling complete. 6.30 am left collier 11.40 am came to anchor Darvel Bay 5.00 pm JED left (1 AB left for Launch) 4caf8731cadfd34197019ba0: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-005_0.jpg) 4 October 1914 At Lahat Datu, Darvel Bay Lat 5.0, Long 118.4 3.10 am One AB returned from Launch 4caf8731cadfd34197019ba1: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-005_1.jpg) 5 October 1914 At Lahat Datu, Darvel Bay Lat 5.0, Long 118.4 4caf8731cadfd34197019ba2: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-006_0.jpg) 6 October 1914 At Lahat Datu, Darvel Bay, and at sea Lat 4.0, Long 119.0 6.00 am weighed and proceeded for Basilan 7.30 am sighted CADMUS 7.40 am sighted CLIO and closed 4caf8731cadfd34197019ba3: (http://oldweather.s3.amazonaws.com/ADM_53-45579/ADM 53-45579-006_1.jpg) 7 October 1914 Patrolling Lat 6.75, Long 122.5 No position in log. 9.30 am sighted JED closed 10.15 am Sent dingy to Jed with mails and remained closed to eastern side of Sibago Island pm stopped midway between Coco Island and Inalanifa (sp ?)
