(with thanks to Owen Vaughan - "My research suggests Commander Brown was flying "top secret" aircraft off HMS Hermes as a Naval Test Pilot (one of three) at the time of his death. He died during a test launch from Hermes.". Confirmed by Don Kindell - flying Buccaneer XK 529 to Hermes 31 August 1961 for carrier trials. Boundary layer control failed on catapult launch, assumed high nose-up attitude, stalled, crashed in Lyme Bay, 500 yards ahead of ship.  Brown and Mr. T. D. Dunn were both killed.  Wreckage transported to Fleetlands Test Flight Hanger at Lee-on-Solent.)
