RIVER-Class Frigate ordered on 8th May 1941 from Hall Russell of
Aberdeen and laid down on 4th October 1941. The ship was launched on 12th
October 1942 as
the 2nd RN ship to carry the name, previously used
for a WW1 destroyer sold in 1921. Build was completed on 30th January 1943 and
she had been adopted by the civil community of Martley, then in Worcestershire after a successful WARSHIP
WEEK National Savings campaign during March 1942.

Heraldic Data
No crest is included in the Official List of Heraldic Crests. This
is unusual
as the name had already been used. However, many wartime built ships of
this type had none officially recognised and some used a suitable design.
