SHOREHAM-Class
Sloop ordered from built HM Dockyard
Devonport in
March 1931 under 1930 Programme in March
1930. The ship was laid down on 7th
September 1931 and was launched on 23rd
July 1932 by Lady Adddison
as the first RN ship to carry the name.
It had been intended to name this ship
WESTON SUPER MARE, but this was changed
before launch to WESTON. Build was
completed on 23rd February 1933 and the
ship was manned by the Portsmouth
Division. Until 1939 she served in the
south Atlantic and Red Sea. After a
WARSHIP WEEK National Savings campaign
in March 1942 she was adopted by the
civil community of Weston-super-Mare,
Somerset.
